Licensed. Experienced. Supportive.
Welcome to Transitions Marriage and Relationship Counseling. My name is Bryan Hennessey and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in Denver, CO. I am excited that you have found my private practice and are considering the benefits of therapy.
I will work alongside you to help you focus on your strengths and create solutions that meet you where you are at in life and embrace your style of learning, your personality, and your idea of what you want for you, your relationships, and your family.
I’ve helped my clients break through the obstacles that seem to be holding them back in life. Life's too short to be unhappy, unsure, or unfulfilled. I am here to help my clients achieve a more positive outlook on life, and provide them with all the tools necessary to get them there.
Let me help you learn and develop better ways to handle the issues that are holding your back from feeling fulfilled.
I want you to know, just like everyone else I am great at making mistakes, too. I have made my fair share and I know I will continue to, and hopefully I get better with perfecting the art! I am a very passionate person and I tend to highly value both my personal and professional relationships. When I am not in the therapy room I enjoy traveling locally and abroad, outdoor activities of all kinds, going to see movies, hanging out with friends and just plain lounging around my home. I am a dog lover and have always adopted rescue dogs. Currently I have Kona, rescue dog number 4, who is a great companion.
One of the most influential times so far in my professional life was when I worked with incarcerated youth. Experiencing life through the eyes of the incarcerated youth I had a privilege to work with reminded me to value life experiences and that we are all so much more than the mistakes we make and that the human spirit, when given the chance, is capable of achieving great things.
I embrace life and live by the philosophy that nothing is ever mine until I can give it away by being as good of a steward as I can. I have learned that my idea of a family is so much more than the family I was born into. For the most part my idea of family regards those who I surround myself with that guide me, support me, hold me accountable, love me unconditionally, hurt along side me, and who challenge me when I need a kick in the butt.
My professional career development spans over 15 years. My experience includes counseling in inpatient and outpatient clinical government settings and within the last 2 years, I have built my private practice to focus on individuals, couples, and families.
I earned a Masters of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University in Orange, California. Chapman University is ranked #5 of Best Colleges in Regional Universities West by US News and World Report. The Chapman University Marriage and Family Therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). I am also a current and active member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT.)
In my experience, the reasons for seeking therapy are different for everyone. Most commonly, people seek therapy due to a struggle with how they relate to other people and the emotions that impact their every day life that they have trouble understanding and containing. To paraphrase Thomas Edison in his pursuit to invent the light bulb, he found 2,000 ways how not to make a light bulb, and he only needed one way to make it work. Failing at times in relationships and making mistake after mistake leads us inevitably to succeed in ways that eventually work for us.
Just like most businesses, relationships aren’t successful unless there is a framework in place and a plan that helps guide them. I will work alongside you to help you focus on your strengths and create solutions that meet you where you are at and embrace your style of learning, your personality, and your idea of what you want for you, your relationships, and your family.
